Dhaka, Jun 03 (V7N) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has intensified security measures across the country to ensure public safety and prevent crime during Eid-ul-Azha, with special focus on sacrificial animal markets, financial transactions, and online fraud prevention.

At a press conference held on Tuesday (June 3) at the RAB Media Centre in Kawran Bazar, Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, Director of RAB's Law and Media Branch, outlined the comprehensive measures being taken to maintain law and order during the Eid season.

Key Measures Announced:

  • Enhanced Intelligence Surveillance: RAB has increased surveillance around cattle markets to prevent the circulation of counterfeit currency. Fake note detection machines have been installed at RAB control rooms at key market locations, and the public can use these services free of charge.

  • Special Patrols and Undercover Operations: RAB units, including plainclothes detectives, have been deployed to thwart criminal activities such as theft, fraud, extortion, harassment, and involvement of “malam” and “ignorant parties.” Mobile courts will be operating to take immediate action against any public disturbances or harassment of women.

  • Health and Price Monitoring: Surveillance is ongoing to detect sick or artificially fattened cattle. Mobile courts are already taking action against unscrupulous traders. RAB is also ensuring that market transaction lists are displayed as per regulations, aiming to prevent excessive tolls and unauthorized charges.

  • Cyber Monitoring for Online Cattle Sales: With a rise in online transactions for sacrificial animals, RAB’s Cyber Monitoring Cell is on 24/7 alert to prevent digital fraud. Citizens are urged to contact the RAB control room immediately if they fall victim to any online scam.

  • Action Against Syndicates and Extortion: Intelligence units are actively monitoring syndicates that attempt to manipulate the animal skin market or collapse its pricing structure. RAB has warned of strict actions against any such attempts. Additional patrols have been deployed to prevent extortion from cattle trucks on highways and to stop illegal transfers of cattle between markets.

Commander Intekhab Chowdhury emphasized that RAB is on the highest alert level to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid for all citizens. “Our mission is to ensure that everyone can celebrate Eid-ul-Azha without fear,” he said.

He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity or seek help via the RAB control room, which will remain fully operational throughout the Eid holidays.
