Dhaka, May 16 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed the interim government's commitment to gender equality in digital transformation, in alignment with the spirit of the historic July mass uprising.
In a message issued on Friday, ahead of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day observed on Saturday (May 17), Dr. Yunus emphasized this year’s theme — "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation." He highlighted that equal participation of women and men in telecommunications and information technology is essential for building a modern, discrimination-free society.
"The interim government is deeply committed to ensuring that men and women have equal access and opportunities in the digital sphere," said the principal advisor. He added that significant strides have been made in developing the telecommunications and IT sectors, with transparency and accountability being key guiding principles.
As part of these efforts, the government has initiated the creation of a digital service platform called 'Citizen Service', aimed at expanding access to public services and reducing harassment. This system is being deployed across the country through Union Citizen Service Centers.
The message also mentioned several targeted initiatives to promote gender inclusion, such as:
-
Special freelancing training programs for women entrepreneurs
-
X-STEM training initiatives focused on empowering school-going girls
-
Expansion of a satellite-based high-speed internet network to ensure connectivity in remote areas
Dr. Yunus concluded by urging citizens, stakeholders, and policymakers to work collaboratively towards establishing world-class telecommunications and IT services. He expressed hope for a future where digital equality becomes a reality, saying, "With joint efforts, we can build an inclusive, progressive, and equality-based Bangladesh."
