Pabna, Oct 15 (V7N) – A woman was killed and three people were injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw overturned in Chatmohar, Pabna, while an eight-year-old schoolboy died after being run over by a bus inside his school campus in Narayanganj in two separate accidents.
The incidents occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving families grieving and raising concerns over road and vehicle safety.
In the first incident, Hasina Khatun, 55, was killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw overturned near Bhabanipur intersection on the Chatmohar-Tebunia regional road in Chatmohar upazila around noon on Wednesday, October 14.
Her husband, Mostafa Molla, and two other passengers, Abdul Hamid and Minhaj Uddin, were injured in the accident. They were initially taken to Atgharia Health Complex before being transferred to Pabna General Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
Hasina was the wife of Mostafa Molla and a resident of Dewanpara in Dikmari, Ishwardi upazila.
According to eyewitnesses, the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Tebunia towards Chatmohar with Hasina and the other passengers on board. When it reached the Bhabanipur area of Mulgram Union, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn beside the road. Hasina died at the scene.
Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Oliur Rahman confirmed the incident and said the family of the deceased had been informed.
In the second incident, Shahriar Sayan, an eight-year-old second-grade student of Adamjee Cantonment Public School and College’s Jalsiri campus in Rupganj, Narayanganj, was killed after being run over by a bus inside the school campus on Tuesday afternoon, October 13.
The accident occurred around 3:30pm, shortly after classes were scheduled to end.
Sayan’s father, Saju Ahmed Selim, blamed negligence by the bus driver and the absence of a helper for the tragedy. He called on the school authorities to investigate the incident and take disciplinary action against those responsible.
According to his father, CCTV footage showed a bus leaving the campus without an assistant. As the bus turned left, Sayan was reportedly run over by its left-side wheel. His father said the bus was assigned to a different route from the one used by his son.
Selim said he was at his office in Dhanmondi when the school called him at around 3:40pm and asked him to reach the campus immediately. He arrived about 40 minutes later and found his son lying injured beneath the bus.
The family completed the necessary formalities and took the body to their village home in Ramchandrapur, Mazpara Union, Atgharia upazila, Pabna, early Wednesday. Sayan was buried in the local cemetery after funeral prayers at around 9am.
His uncle, Sohel Rana, said the family had been devastated by the loss. Sayan was due to turn nine on November 12.
His father said he had submitted a written request to the school authorities seeking an investigation and disciplinary action. He said he did not wish to pursue legal proceedings, citing the practical difficulties involved, but wanted those responsible for the incident to be held accountable through the school’s own inquiry.
The two incidents have highlighted concerns over vehicle control, passenger safety and the need for greater caution around children and other road users.
