Habiganj, Apr 22 (V7N) — At least nine businesses were gutted in a devastating fire at Bithangal Akhra Bazaar under Baniachong Upazila late Monday night, causing an estimated loss of around Tk 8 million.
Fire started in restaurant
According to local reports, the fire originated at around 2:00 am in a restaurant owned by businessman Sanjit Roy in the market area.
Locals said the blaze spread rapidly after a gas cylinder explosion, engulfing nearby shops.

In total, nine commercial establishments were burned, with no goods salvaged due to the intensity of the fire.
Firefighting delays and local response
The Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence said that although information was received quickly, their response was delayed due to traffic restrictions.
Locals initially attempted to control the fire after announcements were made via mosque loudspeakers, but the blaze became uncontrollable.
The fire was eventually brought under control after nearly two hours of effort by residents.
Investigation ongoing
Baniachong Fire Service Station Leader Riaz Uddin said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway.
Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
