Narayanganj, Feb 08 (V7N)- A massive fire broke out at a madrasa in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, destroying 10 rooms along with valuable belongings, including books and furniture.

The fire occurred at Madrasa-e-Noor-e-Madina in the Barpa area of Tarabo Municipality on Saturday night (February 7).

Two units of the Kanchan Fire Service, with assistance from local residents, worked for about one hour to bring the blaze under control.

According to madrasa authorities, the fire completely gutted 10 rooms, including the library. Books, tables, chairs, fans, and other educational materials kept in different rooms were burnt to ashes. Founder Hafez Maulana Habibullah claimed that the fire caused losses amounting to at least Tk 2 million.

Senior Station Officer Mahfuzur Rahman of the Fire Service said the fire originated from a closed room of the madrasa’s Noorani department and quickly spread to other parts of the institution.

He added that students staying in different rooms managed to escape safely, and no casualties were reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, the fire service official said.
