Cumilla, Jan 09 (V7N) – At least two people were killed and around 15 others injured after a passenger bus lost control and overturned on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Daudkandi, Cumilla, on Thursday night.

The accident occurred around 10:30 pm in the Turnipara area of Daudkandi when a Dhaka-bound Star Line bus traveling from Dhaka to Feni lost control at a U-turn. According to police, the bus first hit a road divider before crossing into the opposite lane and overturning. A Dhaka-bound microbus was also struck during the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Eliotganj Highway Police Station, Ruhul Amin, confirmed the fatalities, stating that two passengers of the bus died on the spot. Their identities could not be confirmed immediately.

Sub-Inspector Md Fazlur Rahman said the injured were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Several of them were reported to be in critical condition.

Following the crash, traffic movement on the busy highway was temporarily disrupted. Police teams were deployed promptly to manage the situation and restore normal traffic flow.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, while urging drivers to maintain caution, particularly at highway intersections and U-turns, to prevent similar tragedies.
