Ishwardi, Nov 08 (V7N) – Bangladesh's first National Youth Nuclear Dialogue, titled “Bangladesh National Youth Nuclear Dialogue: Impact Team 2050”, was held in Ishwardi, Pabna, bringing together young people to discuss the country's nuclear energy potential, safety and career opportunities in the sector.
The dialogue took place on Saturday at the Public Information Centre on Nuclear in Ishwardi, in partnership with Rosatom State Corporation and the International Youth Advisory Council–Impact Team 2050.
Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hasan Mohammad Shoaib attended as the chief guest, while Olga Vishnevskaya, deputy project director for human resources at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project, was present as a special guest.
The keynote speaker was Promod Chandra Baidya, a Bangladeshi member of the International Youth Advisory Council to Rosatom's director general and a sub-assistant manager at the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL).
The session was moderated by Ashik Haider, project manager of the Public Information Centre on Nuclear. More than 50 students, young professionals and Rosatom representatives took part.
Participants discussed challenges facing young people seeking careers in the nuclear sector, including a lack of reliable information, limited access to specialised education and research, and inadequate opportunities for practical training and internships.
They recommended expanding specialised courses, scholarships, research grants, internships and employment opportunities. Proposals also included launching a national Nuclear Innovation Challenge, Nuclear Youth Fellowship, youth clubs, science camps and university-based ambassador programmes.
The discussion also emphasised raising awareness among young people about nuclear safety, radioactive waste management and environmental impacts.
Organisers said the dialogue's findings and recommendations would be presented to Rosatom's director general. The proposals would also be raised at the UN Climate Change Conference COP31, scheduled to take place in Antalya, Turkey.
They expressed hope that the initiative would help develop a skilled workforce for Bangladesh's nuclear sector and increase youth engagement in the field.
