Gazipur, Nov 8 (V7N) — The fire that broke out at a cotton godown in the Millgate Cooperative Society Market area of Tongi, Gazipur, has been brought under control after nearly two hours of effort.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the blaze was brought under control at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (November 8) with the efforts of eight firefighting units.
The fire initially started around 11:30 a.m., quickly engulfing the area in thick black smoke. Garment workers from nearby buildings were immediately evacuated to safety, while the incident caused panic among local residents.
Officials said the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not yet be confirmed. However, preliminary reports suggest that the blaze may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.
A detailed report on the incident and the losses will be released by the fire service authorities later.
