SYDNEY, April 17 (V7N) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Friday that the United States has made “no new requests” for assistance in the Iran conflict, despite President Donald Trump’s criticism that Australia was not helping.

Trump told reporters in Washington Thursday he was “not happy with Australia” for not joining US efforts in the Strait of Hormuz. “They were not there, having to do with Hormuz,” he said.

Albanese responded that Trump had made it clear he has “got this” when it comes to Iran. “There’s been no new requests at all,” he told reporters.

Australia, a key US security ally, has said it is not directly involved in the Iran war but has an interest in reopening the Strait of Hormuz to fuel shipments. Defence Minister Richard Marles confirmed Canberra is in talks with France, Britain, and the US over securing the waterway.

Last month, Washington asked Australia to assist with Gulf defence. In response, Canberra deployed an E7 Wedgetail surveillance aircraft and missiles to protect the United Arab Emirates, officials said.
