Dhaka, Dec 03 (V7N) – The final supermoon of 2025 is set to appear in the sky this week. December’s full moon, known as the “Cold Moon”, will be the third consecutive supermoon after those in October and November. Thursday is the best opportunity to witness this rare celestial event.
What is a Cold Moon?
The full moon in December is traditionally called the Cold Moon, reflecting the winter chill. Each month’s full moon carries a unique name rooted in cultural or historical significance.
What is a Supermoon?
A supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth (perigee), making it appear larger and brighter than usual. According to NASA, a supermoon can look 14% larger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year. Typically, three to four supermoons are visible annually.
When and how to see it
December’s supermoon will reach its peak brightness on Thursday, December 4 at 6:14 PM Eastern Time, which is 5:14 AM Bangladesh time on Friday, December 5.
The supermoon can be viewed with the naked eye, though telescopes or binoculars provide more detail of the lunar surface. For the best experience, observers should choose open, flat areas with minimal light pollution.
The Cold Moon supermoon promises a spectacular display in the sky, so don’t miss the chance to look up and enjoy it.
