Madrid, Oct 29 (V7N)- The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has postponed all 24 first-round matches of the Copa del Rey scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, following a deadly train collision in Spain’s Toledo province. The decision was taken as a mark of respect and solidarity with the victims.

The accident occurred near Urda in Toledo province, where two high-speed trains collided. The crash disrupted rail services between Madrid and Andalusia, affecting travel plans for football teams and their supporters.

Reports on Wednesday gave differing death tolls as rescue operations continued. Some outlets reported at least 30 fatalities, while others later reported 68 deaths.

The postponed fixtures included matches involving La Liga clubs Real Betis, Valencia, Celta Vigo, Levante and Deportivo Alavés. The federation said it would announce revised dates and kick-off times for the affected matches later.

The RFEF had not announced a final decision on the matches scheduled for Thursday at the time of the initial reports. Subsequent scheduling information indicated that Thursday’s fixtures were expected to proceed as planned.
