Sylhet, May 19 (V7N) — Bangladesh national cricket team created history by defeating Pakistan national cricket team by 78 runs in Sylhet, completing another Test series whitewash against their long-time rivals.
With the victory, Bangladesh achieved a rare milestone by securing back-to-back Test series whitewashes against Pakistan, having previously swept the visitors on Pakistani soil as well. The Tigers have now registered four consecutive Test victories over Pakistan.
Chasing a massive target of 438 runs on the fifth and final day, Pakistan resumed play with three wickets in hand. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan continued to resist alongside the lower order.
Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan played aggressive strokes early in the day against pacers Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed, but Bangladesh regained control when spinner Taijul Islam dismissed him for 28.
Rizwan’s determined innings ended on 94 when he was removed by Shariful Islam. Pakistan eventually collapsed for 358 runs after Taijul claimed the final wicket of Khurram Shahzad, completing a six-wicket haul.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praised the team’s consistency and fighting spirit following the landmark series victory.
The win also lifted Bangladesh to fifth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings, moving ahead of India in the updated rankings.
