Stockholm, May 13 (V7N) – Sweden have announced their 26-member squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with the omission of Rooney Bardgir emerging as the biggest surprise in the selection.
Despite making 26 appearances for FC Barcelona this season, the young winger failed to secure a place in the national squad announced ahead of the tournament.
Sweden head coach Graham Potter largely avoided major surprises in the squad selection. However, he chose not to wait for Dejan Kulusevski to recover fully from a long-term knee injury that has kept the forward sidelined for nearly a year.
Meanwhile, Alexander Isak has been included in the squad after recently returning from injury, providing a major boost to Sweden’s attacking lineup.
The FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico, is scheduled to begin on June 11.
Sweden will open their Group F campaign against Tunisia on June 14. Their remaining group-stage opponents are Netherlands and Japan.
