Tangail, Aug 10 (V7N) — Active youth engagement in sports can serve as a powerful deterrent against drugs and anti-social behavior, said Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while inaugurating a newly built mini stadium in Tangail Sadar upazila on Saturday.
At a video conference event held to inaugurate 14 newly constructed mini stadiums across various upazilas of the country, Youth and Sports Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan emphasized the importance of ensuring proper use of these sports facilities. He stated that well-managed sports grounds at the upazila level can play a crucial role in developing national and international-level athletes, while also helping to protect the country’s youth from falling into harmful activities such as drug abuse.
The event was part of a national initiative aimed at expanding access to modern sports infrastructure in rural and semi-urban regions. During the inauguration of the Tangail Sadar mini stadium, Bhuiyan remarked, “We must make sure these stadiums are used regularly by athletes. If properly utilized, these grounds can become breeding grounds for future champions.”
He also shared that several other mini stadiums under construction in different parts of the country are progressing steadily and will be completed soon. “Our goal is to ensure that every upazila has access to a standard sports facility. Where there is no stadium yet, construction will begin in phases,” he added.
Local officials and dignitaries attended the event held at Tangail Sadar. Present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahida Akhter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Mokbul Hossain, Dainya Union Panel Chairman Md. Abu Sayeed, along with heads of various government departments and respected community and political figures.
The mini stadiums launched across the 14 upazilas are part of a government push to promote sports and youth development under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The initiative seeks to provide young people in rural areas with access to quality facilities and structured opportunities for physical and personal development.
Officials noted that community engagement and proper maintenance of the fields will be essential to achieving the long-term goals of the initiative. Local authorities have been instructed to support sports programs and events regularly to keep the facilities active and inclusive.
The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to expanding sports infrastructure as a means to foster healthy lifestyles, community engagement, and national pride through athletic achievement.
