Munich, June 7 (V7N) — Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he will not participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, set to begin in the United States on June 14.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain in Munich, Ronaldo said, “It is logical to talk about some things, not about others. It is not possible to participate in everything.”
The decision comes as a major blow to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who had hoped one of the most recognizable figures in global football would feature in the tournament. Despite receiving multiple invitations, the 39-year-old forward has decided to skip the event.
"You have to think about short, medium, and long-term plans," Ronaldo added. "I have almost made up my mind not to go to the Club World Cup."
The announcement comes just a day before Portugal's high-stakes Nations League final clash with Spain, adding to the growing speculation about Ronaldo’s playing schedule as he nears the twilight of his career.
