Dhaka, May 14 (V7N) – Despite initially going unsold in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has made a stunning return to the league — and for three times his previous price.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) have roped in Mustafizur as a replacement for Australian opener Jack Fraser-McGurk, who withdrew from the rest of the tournament due to personal reasons. DC officially announced the signing through a post on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating:
"Impress us with your foolproof deliveries and win our hearts with your bright smile."
Mustafizur, fondly known as “Fiz,” has extensive IPL experience, having played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) over the years. In his debut season with SRH in 2016, he claimed 16 wickets and was named the Emerging Player of the Tournament, helping his team lift the title.
So far, Mustafizur has taken 61 wickets in 57 IPL matches.
In the 2024 season, CSK signed him for a base price of Rs 2 crore. But this time, Delhi Capitals acquired him mid-season for a whopping Rs 6 crore, recognizing his value during the crucial playoff race.
With this signing, Mustafizur becomes the third left-arm pacer in the DC squad, joining Mitchell Starc and T. Natarajan. DC, currently sitting fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 matches, is eyeing a playoff spot. Their next three matches are crucial, facing off against top competitors Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The Capitals are just one point behind fourth-placed MI, and Mustafizur’s addition could bolster their chances as they prepare for the IPL 2025 playoffs, beginning May 17.
