Tehran, June 19 (V7N) — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Tehran’s actions in the ongoing conflict with Israel have been solely in self-defense, while reiterating that Iran remains committed to diplomatic efforts.
In a statement posted Thursday on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi emphasized that Iran's responses have been limited and targeted only at direct threats, not at Israel's allies or regional partners.
“Iran is reacting solely in self-defense,” Araghchi wrote. “Despite severe aggression against our people, we have so far only responded to Israeli attacks—none of their partners have been targeted.”
The minister’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where recent exchanges between Iranian-aligned forces and Israeli military operations have escalated concerns of a wider regional conflict. However, Iranian officials have consistently framed their military posture as reactive rather than offensive.
While Iran has been accused by several Western nations of supporting proxy groups in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, Tehran maintains that its military actions are restrained and calculated, focused solely on deterrence and protecting national sovereignty.
Araghchi’s statement also appears to be aimed at easing international pressure and preventing further escalation with Western powers, many of whom have called for restraint and a return to diplomacy.
The post received significant attention on regional media and diplomatic channels, with analysts suggesting that Tehran is seeking to signal both strength and moderation in the face of increasing hostilities.
Despite growing regional instability, Araghchi reaffirmed:
“Iran remains committed to diplomacy.”
