New Delhi, May 1 (V7N) – India has officially closed its airspace to Pakistani airlines, according to a government notice issued on Wednesday. The notice states that the restriction will remain in effect from April 30 to May 23.
The move comes amid escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries following a recent militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. On April 22, gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists in the region, an incident India claims was backed by Pakistan. In response, New Delhi has taken a series of retaliatory measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and cancelling visas issued to Pakistani citizens.
Pakistan responded with its own countermeasures, including the closure of its airspace to Indian airlines. India’s latest action — a reciprocal ban on Pakistani aircraft — comes approximately one week after Pakistan's decision.
These developments mark a significant deterioration in bilateral relations and have raised concerns over regional stability.
