DHAKA, May 1, (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today emphasized that only by ensuring people’s rights can Bangladesh avoid becoming a subservient state, asserting national interest must take precedence over foreign influences.
Speaking virtually at a May Day rally organized by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal at BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters, Tarique called for the establishment of a democratic, accountable, and inclusive government. He accused the former Awami League regime of subjugating the nation for over a decade and said that despite its fall, full democratic rights have yet to be realized.
He reiterated BNP’s support for the interim government and cautioned against internal divisions among anti-fascist parties. “Both reforms and elections are necessary,” he said, urging the interim government to publish a clear election roadmap and complete reforms in law enforcement, the judiciary, and the Election Commission.
The rally saw participation from key BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, and others. A huge crowd gathered in front of the BNP office, turning the Nayapaltan area into a “human sea,” with cultural performances by JASAS marking the event.
