DHAKA, May 01 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for immediate reforms to facilitate the next general elections and establish a "people's government." He made this demand during a workers' rally held in front of the BNP's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka, commemorating May Day.
"We are going through an unusual time politically. Fascism has fallen but democracy has not emerged. The people's aspirations and the formation of a people's government have not yet been established," Alamgir stated.
The rally featured BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as the chief guest, participating virtually, and was presided over by Sramik Dal president Anwar Hossain.
Several senior BNP leaders, including Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, and others, addressed the gathering.
Alamgir urged Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to expedite the necessary reforms to ensure the prompt conduct of the upcoming general elections.
He emphasized the significance of workers' rights, citing BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's contributions to creating employment opportunities through garment factories and manpower export initiatives.
"Whatever good work has been done for the workers has been done whenever BNP was in power," Alamgir asserted.
He criticized the current state of workers' rights, highlighting the disparity between their contributions and compensation. "The workers keep the entire civilization alive but do not get fair wages," he said. He also addressed the issue of child labor, stating, "Children have to beat the hammer for a living. Where he is supposed to study and play, he has to take care of the family."
Alamgir acknowledged the advancements in technology and production processes but lamented the lack of improvement in the working class's condition.
