Dhaka, Sept 24 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has published a recruitment circular for appointing 5,000 assistant surgeons and assistant dental surgeons through the 51st Special BCS Examination 2026.
According to a PSC notice issued today, 4,700 assistant surgeons and 300 assistant dental surgeons will be recruited through the BCS to fill vacant posts in the health cadre.
Candidates must hold an MBBS, BDS or equivalent degree to participate in the special BCS examination. The online application process will begin at 10 am on October 1 and continue until 6 pm on October 25. Candidates who receive user IDs within the stipulated period will be able to pay the fee through Teletalk SMS until 6 pm on October 28 (the subsequent 72 hours).
The application fee has been fixed at Tk 205, including a Tk 5 information verification fee. For candidates from ethnic minority communities, persons with disabilities and third-gender candidates, the total fee has been fixed at Tk 55, including the Tk 5 information verification fee.
Candidates must be aged between 21 and 32 years as of September 1, 2026. They can apply through the PSC-designated websites, bpsc.teletalk.com.bd and bpsc.gov.bd.
Candidates who have appeared in the final-year MBBS or BDS examinations can also apply. However, they must complete their written examinations by October 25 and subsequently obtain their final degrees. Candidates holding foreign degrees must produce an equivalence certificate issued by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) at the viva voce examination.
The 51st Special BCS Examination will be held for a total of 300 marks, comprising a 200-mark written (MCQ) examination and a 100-mark viva voce examination. For each wrong answer in the written examination, 0.50 marks will be deducted.
Male candidates must have a minimum height of 152.40 cm and weight of 49.99 kg, while female candidates must have a minimum height of 147.32 cm and weight of 43.54 kg.
The notice further said candidates with disabilities who require a scribe during the examination must submit a written application to the Commission by November 3.
The recruitment drive is part of the government's efforts to address the acute shortage of doctors in public hospitals, where only 30,311 doctors are currently working against 41,806 approved posts. The government has set a target of recruiting more doctors to fill vacant posts and improve healthcare services across the country.
