Teknaf, Oct 01 (V7N) – Departmental cases have been filed against eight teachers, including the headteachers of two government primary schools in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, over alleged absence from school and negligence of duty.

The cases were filed against Ali Akbar Sazzad, headteacher of Harikhola Government Primary School in Whykong Union, Nasima Akter, headteacher of Laturikhola Government Primary School, and six other teachers from the two schools.

Abu Noman Md Abdullah, acting education officer of the Teknaf Upazila Primary Education Office, confirmed the matter on Wednesday morning.

According to the upazila primary education office, show-cause notices were issued to 11 teachers from the two schools on Sept 6, seeking explanations for their alleged absence and negligence in performing their duties.

Earlier, allegations surfaced that there were no teachers or students at the two schools and that the classrooms remained locked. Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Anik Chowdhury subsequently inspected the schools and found no teachers, staff or students present. The classrooms were also found locked.

Following the inspection, show-cause notices were issued to the 11 teachers. An investigation later confirmed that three of them had been on leave. The remaining eight teachers, including the two headteachers, were subsequently made subject to departmental cases.

UNO SM Anik Chowdhury said departmental proceedings had been initiated against those found responsible for negligence of duty based on the investigation.

Abu Noman Md Abdullah said further action would be taken against the eight teachers after completion of the departmental proceedings.
