Bagerhat, June 30 (V7N) - The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a tree planting program on Monday in Morelganj, Bagerhat, to commemorate the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. The event took place at the Baraikhali Union Parishad premises and was organized by the local unit of the party.
 
The program officially began at 11:00 a.m., with Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon, a member of the Bagerhat district BNP and aspirant for the party’s nomination from Bagerhat-4 constituency, attending as the chief guest and inaugurating the event.
 
Golam Rasul Babul, president of the Baraikhali Union BNP, presided over the gathering and welcomed the attendees. Among others who addressed the event were Shahidul Haque Babul, convener of Morelganj Upazila BNP; Abdus Jabbar Molla, member secretary; Asaduzzaman Milan, general secretary of the Morelganj municipal BNP; joint convener Matiur Rahman Bacchu; lecturer Russel Al Islam; and Mohammad Zainal Abedin, president of the Upazila Krishak Dal.
 
After the speeches, the chief guest distributed coconut and other fruit saplings to local farmers. The ceremony concluded with the symbolic planting of coconut saplings in the courtyard of the Union Parishad.
 
Speaking at the event, Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon accused the government of plotting to obstruct free and fair elections. He called on the people of Bengal to resist any conspiracies against the democratic process and urged authorities to hold elections within the timeframe stipulated by the caretaker government declaration.
