Mongla, Jan 12 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Coast Guard has successfully rescued an abducted woman in Mongla and arrested one suspect in connection with the incident, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to Coast Guard sources, 18-year-old Ms. Lima Khatun, who had traveled to the Sundarbans for tourism purposes, was abducted from Banisanta area in Dakop Upazila, Khulna, on December 20, 2025. Her husband filed a general diary (GD) with Sonadanga Police Station after she failed to return home for an extended period.

On Saturday, January 10, 2026, at around 6:00 pm, the victim’s husband, with the help of a local resident, went to Banisanta to bring his wife back. During this attempt, 25-year-old Sagar Molla, posing as the victim’s brother, followed them and tried to forcibly take the woman again near Mongla Bus Stand.

Alerted to the situation, a Coast Guard rescue team from Mongla Base promptly reached the scene and successfully rescued the abducted woman while apprehending the suspect.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Coast Guard Media Officer, confirmed the operation on Sunday afternoon. He stated that both the rescued woman and the arrested suspect have been handed over to Dakop Police Station for further legal action.

He added that the Bangladesh Coast Guard remains committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety in coastal areas, and such rapid-response operations will continue in the future to protect citizens.
