Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N)- The United States has provided 500,000 NS1 rapid diagnostic test kits to Bangladesh to support the country’s efforts to combat dengue, with the kits set to be distributed in phases to upazila and district-level hospitals across the country.
Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain disclosed the information on Thursday morning (October 1) during a ceremony at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital marking the formal handover and receipt of the dengue test kits supplied by the United States.
The Health Minister said the donated kits would strengthen dengue diagnosis at healthcare facilities across the country. According to him, the kits will be distributed in phases to hospitals at the district and upazila levels to ensure wider access to testing.
He also said the country currently has an adequate stock of dengue testing kits and assured that the government is fully prepared to deal with the dengue situation.
The minister emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment as the government continues its efforts to control the spread of dengue.
During his visit to Kurmitola General Hospital, Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain inspected several key facilities, including the emergency department, dengue ward and diagnostic laboratory.
The US-supplied NS1 rapid diagnostic kits are expected to support healthcare facilities in detecting dengue infections and providing timely medical care to patients, particularly at the district and upazila levels .
Authorities said the distribution of the kits will be carried out in phases to ensure that hospitals in different parts of the country have access to the necessary diagnostic supplies.
