Dhaka, Oct 20 (V7N) – Police have detained a female student in connection with the murder of Jagannath University (JnU) student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Jubayd Ahmed, whose blood-soaked body was found on a staircase in Old Dhaka’s Armanitola on Sunday evening.
The detained student, identified as Barsha Akhter, was taken into custody from her residence at Roushan Villa on Noor Box Road in Bangshal around 11:20 p.m. Sunday. Jubayd had been tutoring Barsha at her home, police confirmed. As officers took Barsha away, agitated students from JnU chanted slogans demanding justice, shouting “We want justice! We want the death penalty!” for the perpetrators. Police have also placed Barsha’s family members under close watch for questioning.
Earlier that evening, police recovered Jubayd’s body from the staircase of the same building where he gave private lessons. He was a student of JnU’s 15th batch and a member of the university’s JCD convening committee. Jubayd also served as the president of the Comilla District Students’ Welfare Association at Jagannath University.
Eyewitnesses reported that the body was found on the third-floor stairs, with blood splattered across multiple floors, suggesting that Jubayd tried to flee or fight for his life before collapsing. Neighbors claimed to have heard a loud noise but were unaware of the murder until police arrived.
A fellow student said Jubayd had received a call from Barsha shortly before his death. “She asked whether he was coming to tutor her. Moments later, his phone location showed he had entered Noor Box Lane,” the student said.
According to police, initial investigation points to the involvement of Barsha and her boyfriend in the murder. “We have already identified two suspects and are investigating the case with utmost priority,” said Bangshal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam.
The brutal killing has triggered outrage among JnU students, who continue to demand the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.
