Dhaka, Oct 18 (V7N) — A massive fire has broken out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. The blaze started around noon on Saturday (October 18), prompting a large-scale firefighting operation.

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, 20 units are currently working to bring the fire under control, while 12 additional units are on their way to the scene. The Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh Air Force, and Navy have also deployed teams to assist in the firefighting efforts, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Following the incident, flight operations at Shahjalal Airport have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.

Airport sources said the cargo village houses imported goods from various countries, and the extent of the damage is yet to be determined. Firefighters are still battling the flames as smoke continues to rise from the site.
