Dhaka, May 01 (V7N) – In celebration of International Workers' Day, the Ministry of Labor and Employment organized a vibrant procession in the capital on Thursday morning, emphasizing the rights and dignity of working people in Bangladesh.

The event, held at Manik Mia Avenue, was inaugurated by Labor Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, who released balloons and pigeons as symbols of peace and solidarity. The procession, marked by music, horse-drawn carriages, colorful costumes, and “May Day” slogans, traveled from Khamarbari to the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center.

In his remarks, Dr. Sakhawat stressed, “The picture of society will only change when employers and workers stand together.” He acknowledged the historical neglect of workers in the country and reiterated the interim government’s commitment to improving their conditions, including health protection, fair wages, and legal reforms.

Addressing reporters, he noted that although much remains to be done, “a process has begun that will have a significant long-term impact.”

He also shared insights from his recent visit to the International Labor Organization (ILO), warning that Bangladesh could face restrictions if workers’ safety and salary structures continue to deteriorate.

Participants in the procession voiced concern over the ineffective implementation of labor laws and called for greater attention to workers' rights and well-being.
