Teknaf, Oct 30 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 107 Rohingyas for moving freely outside their designated camps in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The detainees include 61 men, 28 women, and 18 children. The information was confirmed in a press release issued by BGB on Thursday morning.

The operation was conducted throughout Wednesday at the Damdamia checkpoint under Teknaf upazila.

According to BGB sources, many residents of the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) camps have recently been leaving camp areas without authorization, posing a growing threat to overall security in Teknaf and surrounding regions.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, BGB has intensified inspection and search operations at all major checkpoints in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

Though the detained individuals were verified as residents of various FDMN camps, they were found roaming outside without proper permits.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, PSC, commanding officer of Teknaf Battalion-2 of BGB, said that after verifying their identities, the detainees were released and handed over to their respective camp leaders (Majhis) following proper documentation and undertaking.

He added that BGB will continue its regular patrols and operations to prevent Rohingyas from leaving the camps without authorization and ensure the area’s overall security remains intact.
