Dhaka, Oct 30 (V7N)- Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said that strong disagreements remain among political parties regarding the proposed referendum, but the Chief Advisor will decide the matter soon.

Speaking at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Dr. Nazrul expressed disappointment over the continuing disputes after 270 days of discussions, first over content and now over the referendum. He stressed that no party should impose its decision unilaterally on the government, adding that elections will be held in the first half of February. He also noted that both the government and political parties share responsibility for ensuring a proper voting environment.

Regarding human rights, Dr. Nazrul said that the Human Rights Ordinance has been issued, empowering the Human Rights Commission to exercise legal authority and handle issues, including enforced disappearances, in line with international customary law.

Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Advisor, added that medical treatment for 65 people injured in the July–August incidents abroad is ongoing, with expenses reaching up to 8 crore taka per patient.
