Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N) — A pedestrian was killed after a bearing pad (spring) came loose from a metro rail pillar near the Farmgate Metro Station in the capital on Sunday afternoon. The incident caused a temporary halt in metro rail operations.
The accident occurred around 12:15 pm in front of the Bangladesh Krishibid Institute, adjacent to the Farmgate station.
The deceased has been identified as Abul Kalam Azad, aged between 35 and 40, hailing from Shariatpur district.
It may be noted that a similar incident took place on September 18 last year, when a bearing pad detached from a pillar in the same area. Although there were no casualties then, metro services remained suspended for 11 hours.
