Sundarbans, Oct 30 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested an alleged arms supplier linked to the notorious Karim Sharif gang during a special operation in the Sundarbans. One firearm and three rounds of ammunition were seized from his possession.

According to Coast Guard Media Officer (Dhaka) Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, acting on confidential information, a team launched an operation early Thursday morning around 6 a.m. in the Nandabala Canal area near Harbaria on the Pashur River under Mongla upazila. Intelligence reports indicated that an associate of the Karim Sharif gang was entering the forest area with weapons and ammunition intended for the gang’s use.

Upon noticing the presence of law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee. Coast Guard members chased and detained him with one single-barrel shotgun and three live cartridges. The detainee was identified as Abdur Rahim, 32, a resident of Sharankhola in Bagerhat district.

Officials said Abdur Rahim had been supplying weapons and ammunition to the Karim Sharif gang for a long time, helping sustain the group’s criminal operations inside the forest. The seized firearm, ammunition, and the detainee have been handed over to local authorities for further legal procedures.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque emphasized that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to ensure the Sundarbans remains free from bandit activities.
