Tangail, Jun 06 (V7N) – Traffic movement on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway returned to normal on Saturday morning after several hours of severe congestion caused by excessive vehicle pressure, road accidents, broken-down vehicles and slow movement on the Jamuna Bridge.

According to highway authorities, the traffic jam and slow-moving vehicles that began on Friday afternoon continued through the night and into Saturday morning. The situation gradually improved and returned to normal around 11:30 am.

Officials said a long queue of vehicles had formed from the Jamuna Bridge area to the Karatipara Bypass in Tangail during the early hours of the day. To ease the pressure, authorities temporarily operated the Jamuna Bridge in a one-way system for vehicles heading toward northern districts, helping to reduce congestion in the Tangail section of the highway.

Despite the improvement, police noted that traffic pressure remained higher than usual due to the large number of vehicles on the route.

The congestion caused significant hardship for thousands of travelers returning to their workplaces after the Eid holidays. Many passengers, including elderly people, women and children, were forced to spend hours inside vehicles under intense summer heat.

Business operators also expressed concern as trucks carrying perishable and raw materials faced delays in reaching their destinations, increasing the risk of spoilage and financial losses.

Passengers and drivers reported that it took between two and three hours to travel the approximately 10-kilometer stretch between Tangail and Elenga during the peak of the congestion.

Speaking on the situation, Elenga Highway Police Outpost In-Charge Md. Jewel Rana said law enforcement personnel remained active on the highway to manage traffic flow and assist stranded motorists.

“The police are working continuously on the highway. As the day progressed, the traffic situation gradually returned to normal,” he said.

Authorities have urged drivers to remain patient and follow traffic regulations as vehicle movement continues to increase following the Eid vacation period.
