Dhaka, Jun 06 (V7N) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has announced that strict measures, including fines through mobile courts, will be imposed on government and private institutions if stagnant water is found on their premises during a nationwide dengue prevention campaign.
The minister made the remarks on Saturday while inaugurating a three-month special dengue prevention campaign and public awareness rally at Rabindra Sarobar in the capital.
Sakhawat Hossain said mobile court operations will begin within the next two to three days as part of the government's intensified efforts to curb the spread of dengue.
He warned that if stagnant water, which serves as a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, is found in a government institution, a senior official of the institution will be held accountable and fined. In the case of private organizations, the institution itself will face penalties.
The minister urged citizens to maintain cleanliness in and around their homes and ensure that water does not accumulate in drains, containers or other areas where mosquitoes can breed.
He also informed that inspection teams would visit residential areas as part of the campaign. Residents have been requested to cooperate with officials conducting inspections.
“Our teams will inspect houses during the campaign. People should allow them access. If stagnant water is found, immediate action will be taken through mobile courts and fines will be imposed,” he said.
The health minister emphasized that public cooperation is essential for the success of dengue prevention efforts. He warned that if individuals or institutions fail to cooperate with authorities, the government may be compelled to take stricter legal measures.
The three-month campaign aims to raise public awareness, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and strengthen preventive measures ahead of the peak dengue season, as authorities seek to reduce the risk of a major outbreak across the country.
