Jhenaidah, Aug 04 (V7N) – Khulna Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mostafizur Rahman has said that law enforcement agencies will not allow any resurgence of fascism and are fully prepared to maintain law and order ahead of August 5 and August 15.
He made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting with journalists at the conference room of the Jhenaidah Superintendent of Police's office on Monday (August 3).
The meeting was organized by the Jhenaidah District Police and chaired by Superintendent of Police (SP) Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hasan.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the DIG said police would adopt a tougher stance against any activities linked to fascism.
“Fascism will not be allowed to rise in any way. The police will be stricter in suppressing fascist activities,” he said.
Referring to upcoming national events, he added that there was no reason for public concern over August 5 and August 15.
“The police are fully prepared and will remain deployed with all necessary arrangements,” he said.
Reaffirming the government's zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, Mostafizur Rahman said strict action would also be taken against any police personnel found involved in drug-related offences.
“If any member of the police is found involved with drugs, they will undergo a dope test. If the allegation is proven, they will be dismissed from service. There will be no compromise regarding drugs,” he said.
He stressed that the police force would not protect any individual involved in criminal activities.
The DIG also said police superintendents across the range had been instructed to intensify operations against robbery and dacoity and to ensure that only officers with integrity, competence and commitment are assigned key responsibilities.
He further directed police to arrest suspects in cases of violence against women within 24 hours whenever possible.
Highlighting community policing initiatives, he said law enforcement agencies are working to engage children and young people in constructive activities to steer them away from crime.
On information management, the DIG emphasized the importance of providing timely and accurate information to prevent the spread of rumors.
“In this era of free information flow, misinformation can spread quickly if accurate information is not shared promptly. Police officers have been instructed to provide verified information to the media without delay,” he said.
He added that maintaining the free flow of accurate information is essential for keeping the public properly informed.
In his remarks, SP Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hasan said the Jhenaidah District Police had undertaken extensive measures to combat terrorism, drug trafficking and social conflicts.
He said police had already arrested several organized robbery and theft gangs operating in the district.
The SP also warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals spreading hatred and misinformation through Facebook and other social media platforms.
Highlighting the manpower shortage, he noted that only 1,668 police personnel are currently responsible for providing security to nearly two million residents across the district.
“Despite the shortage of manpower, we are striving to provide the best possible service to the people,” he said.
Among those who spoke on behalf of journalists were Jhenaidah Press Club President Asif Iqbal Makhon, General Secretary Aminul Islam Liton, Daily Nabachitra Editor-in-Chief Shahidul Islam, Editor Alauddin Azad, former Press Club presidents Asif Kajal, M. Raihan and Mizanur Rahman Babul, as well as journalists Saddam Hossain, Ahmed Nasim Ansari and Rajib Hasan.
Senior district police officials, including Additional Superintendents of Police Sheikh Billal Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahman and Mahfuz Hossain, along with Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shailkupa Circle) Akhtaruzzaman, were also present at the meeting.
