Dhaka, Apr 21 (V7N) — Prime Minister’s Information Advisor Zahed Ur Rahman has said that it is not mandatory for the government to fully comply with all conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding that domestic borrowing should not be treated as a threat.

He made the remarks during a briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday (April 21).

IMF loan conditions and economic stance

Zahed Ur Rahman stated that while IMF conditions are part of loan agreements, the government retains flexibility in implementation. He emphasized that internal financial arrangements should be managed cautiously but not viewed as alarming.

Fuel supply situation

Addressing concerns over fuel availability, he said there is currently no fuel crisis in the country, and supply is being maintained according to demand. He added that discussions are ongoing to adjust public transport fares following recent fuel price changes, with expectations of a “reasonable fare structure.”

Trade and legal reforms

The advisor also commented on the recently signed trade agreement with the United States, saying it should be openly discussed in society but confirmed there are no plans to cancel it.

He further noted that ordinances related to the Human Rights Commission, enforced disappearances, and judicial reforms will be reintroduced in parliament as bills after necessary amendments, following constitutional procedures.

Government position

He concluded that the administration is working to ensure legal consistency and economic stability while continuing reforms through parliamentary processes.
