Sirajganj, Apr 21 (V7N) — A court has issued an arrest warrant against Amir Hamza in a defamation case for allegedly making offensive remarks against a government minister.
The order was issued by the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Sirajganj on Tuesday (April 21).
Allegations in the case
The case was filed over alleged comments made against Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, where Amir Hamza reportedly referred to him as “atheist” and “Islamophobic.”
The plaintiff, Humayun Kabir—Additional Public Prosecutor and General Secretary of the District Bar Association—said the case was filed following instructions from the district BNP.
Court proceedings
According to court sources, Amir Hamza was previously issued a summons to appear on April 19. However, he did not appear before the court on the scheduled date or subsequently.
Due to his absence, the court proceeded to issue an arrest warrant against him.
Background of the case
The complaint stems from a speech allegedly made by Amir Hamza during a religious gathering in Kushtia, where he made remarks about Minister Tuku’s speech honoring the 1971 Liberation War and freedom fighters.
Following the incident, legal action was initiated, leading to the current warrant.
