Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku has assured the public that Bangladesh has sufficient fuel reserves and normal oil supply, urging people to collect fuel only as needed.
Speaking to reporters at his residence on Monday afternoon, the minister said, “Everyone will get oil, but I request the people to collect oil as needed.” He noted that the government has continued importing oil with a significant subsidy despite global market challenges, with 25 percent more imports this year compared to last year.
Tuku acknowledged a temporary disruption in supply over the past two days due to the Eid holidays but emphasized that the situation is being managed. “We are supplying oil as needed, but we will need the cooperation of the people,” he added. He also said that the cabinet will review the situation and take all necessary measures, including purchases from the spot market.
State Minister for Road Transport and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib told Somoy Television that the government has successfully prevented artificial price hikes and ensured that fuel shortages did not affect Eid travel. Security at petrol pumps remains strong, he added.
However, the Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association raised concerns over ground-level supply. Syed Sajjadul Karim Kabul said that less than one-third of the demand is being met from depots, forcing pumps to open only where fuel is available. Despite this, he reassured the public that there is no risk of permanent pump closures.
The statements come amid heightened public concern over fuel availability following supply disruptions during the Eid holiday period.
