Dhaka, Mar 02 (V7N) — Khandaker Abdul Moktadir, Commerce Minister of Bangladesh, said on Monday that the Indian High Commissioner will provide updates on lifting import-export restrictions and work with the government to resolve existing trade issues between the two countries.
Speaking after a meeting at the Secretariat, the Minister noted that Bangladesh imports goods worth approximately $9.5 billion from India, while exports to India total $1.5 billion. He said that during the interim government, India had imposed restrictions on various exports, and Bangladesh also implemented some controls in response.
Regarding global supply concerns, the Minister added that there is no immediate problem if the Strait of Hormuz experiences temporary closure, emphasizing that Bangladesh has sufficient stocks of imported goods, including fuel.
The Indian High Commissioner expressed his intention to strengthen trade, economic relations, and people-centered cooperation between the two countries in all areas, highlighting the importance of close collaboration on trade, investment, and economic issues.
