Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N) – Badiul Alam Majumdar, editor of Citizens for Good Governance (SUJON), has warned that political parties ignoring necessary reforms will ultimately have to pay the price. He stressed that even if parties continue to follow Sheikh Hasina, their responsibility to the people will increase.
Majumdar made these remarks at a citizen meeting on the results of a public opinion survey on the draft of the July National Charter, organized by SUJON at CIRDAP in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The survey revealed strong public support for political reforms: 90% of respondents want the Anti-Corruption Commission established as a constitutional institution, 87% favor amending Article 70 of the Constitution, and 89% support a maximum 10-year term for the Prime Minister.
At the event, Monir Haider, special assistant to the Chief Advisor, noted that proposals regarding women’s representation in parliament have repeatedly been raised with political parties but were consistently rejected.
The meeting underscored the growing public demand for systemic reforms ahead of future elections and emphasized the need for political parties to respond responsibly.
