Dhaka, June 14 (V7N) — After the long 10-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday, offices, courts, banks, and insurance institutions across the country will reopen on Sunday (June 15). Official working hours will resume from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, marking the end of one of the longest Eid holidays in recent years.
As the holiday draws to a close, thousands of people are making their way back to Dhaka, many of them returning at the last minute. Passenger launches from various southern districts started arriving at Sadarghat terminal from early Sunday morning. The launch terminals were busy but manageable, as returnees disembarked and prepared to resume work in the capital.
Passengers reported that while the outbound Eid journey was somewhat difficult, they were grateful for the quality time spent with relatives during the extended break.
However, many complained about being overcharged by local transport operators while returning home from the launch terminal. CNG-run auto-rickshaws and other public transports were reportedly demanding higher-than-usual fares, causing frustration among returning passengers.
It is worth noting that the Eid-ul-Azha holidays officially began on June 5, following an executive order issued on May 6 by the Advisory Council. To accommodate the extended break, offices were kept open on two Saturdays before Eid, ensuring 10 consecutive days of holiday from June 5 to June 14 for government employees.
With official activities set to resume tomorrow, Dhaka is expected to return to its usual bustling routine from Sunday morning.
