Dhaka, June 7 (V7N) – Following the Eid-ul-Azha prayers on Saturday morning, devotees across Bangladesh began sacrificing animals, marking the sacred ritual of Qurbani in memory of the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

Sacrifices took place in designated areas, as well as garages, open spaces, and streets in various divisional cities, districts, and upazilas. In keeping with tradition, families gathered to cut, distribute, and prepare the meat, with households across the country now engaged in cooking and feasting. The atmosphere remains festive, with both young and old partaking in the celebrations.

Meanwhile, the collection of animal skins has also commenced. Various organizations and individuals are involved in gathering hides, which are a valuable part of the Eid sacrifice economy.

To manage the massive volume of waste generated from an estimated hundreds of thousands of animal sacrifices, the city corporations have activated emergency cleaning operations. About 20,000 sanitation workers in Dhaka’s two city corporations are engaged in the effort. Authorities have canceled all worker leave and set a strict target to remove all waste within 12 hours, beginning from 3 pm.

Officials say they aim to complete the waste removal operation by night, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for residents during the festival.
