Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N)- Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has said that large numbers of people are prepared to support the Dhaka-Rangpur long march being organised by the party-led 11-party alliance to press its demands.
The remarks were made on Friday (September 18) at a press conference on the final preparations for the long march. The programme is scheduled for September 19.
Parwar said supporters would gather along both sides of the route to show solidarity with the programme. He said preparations had been completed and urged party leaders and activists not to respond to any provocation surrounding the event.
He also said public participation in the second long march would be larger than in the alliance's previous programme.
The alliance's demands include implementation of the people's verdict in the February referendum, action over the July 2024 mass killings, measures to address the energy crisis, control of rising prices, and an end to corruption, extortion and violence. Recent reports indicate the alliance has expanded its demands to eight points.
Parwar expressed regret for any inconvenience the long march could cause members of the public and sought cooperation from law enforcement agencies and the government to ensure the programme proceeds peacefully.
The Dhaka-Rangpur long march is scheduled to begin in the capital and proceed towards Rangpur, with rallies planned at several points along the route.
