Ukhiya, Dec 07 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central assistant secretary-general Muhammad Shahjahan addressed a massive youth rally in Ukhiya on Saturday, pledging to build a “politics of change” in the Ukhiya-Teknaf constituency. The rally was held at the Ukhiya Government Primary School grounds, where thousands of young supporters gathered.
Shahjahan asserted that local youth would not succumb to threats from muscle power and that no one could manipulate votes if the youth remain alert. He praised Maulana Nur Ahmad Anwari as the unrivaled leader for establishing a law-and-extortion-free political environment in the area. “The massive turnout in the field has unnerved opposing forces, prompting them to issue threats,” he said.
Recalling the spirit of Bangladesh’s independence, Shahjahan urged the younger generation to fight against local anti-democratic forces, much like previous generations led by Abu Said and Mughda did against tyranny. He declared that the era of forcibly seizing public votes through intimidation is over, a statement that drew enthusiastic slogans from the crowd.
Shahjahan also highlighted the potential of Teknaf’s border trade, emphasizing its capacity to enhance not only the local economy but also social stability, employment, and overall regional development. He called for a new political culture, stating, “If Jamaat’s posters are torn, BNP will rehang them; if the BNP’s ‘Dhaner Sheesh’ posters are torn, Jamaat will restore them—this is how new politics begins in Ukhiya-Teknaf.” He further claimed that university students nationwide are impressed by the organizational skills and ideals of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, preparing Jamaat-e-Islami to provide honest and capable leadership for the future of Bangladesh.
Special guests included Ukhiya Upazila Parishad Chairman AKM Shahjalal Chowdhury, who announced that Maulana Nur Ahmad Anwari would be the constituency’s MP candidate in the upcoming election. Shahjalal raised Anwari’s hand during the rally, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere. The gesture surprised attendees, as Anwari is related to Shahjahan Chowdhury, the ‘Dhaner Sheesh’ candidate.
The rally was organized under the leadership of Ukhiya Upazila Jamaat Amir Maulana Abul Fazal and general secretary Soltan Mahmud. Other speakers included Cox’s Bazar District Jamaat Amir Maulana Nur Ahmad Anwari, Chittagong University Vice President Muhammad Ibrahim Hossain Roni, district Jamaat secretary Zahedul Islam, and leaders from various units of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
