Khulna, Dec 0 (V7N) - The decision was taken by Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman during the divisional meeting of eight parties in Khulna on December 1. On Wednesday afternoon, local party leaders officially endorsed the nomination in a meeting, implementing the Amir’s directive.

Maulana Emran Hossain, district Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, confirmed the nomination to journalists on Wednesday evening. Krishna Nandi, president of the Dumuria Upazila Hindu Committee, also confirmed the news, stating, “I have been officially declared the candidate by Jamaat-e-Islami. The Amir made the announcement on December 1, and it was finalized by the local board today. We will begin campaigning soon.”

Commenting on the previous candidate, Nandi said, “On December 1, the Amir reconciled both of us and endorsed me. The Amir himself initiated the campaign on my behalf. There is no conflict within Jamaat regarding this decision.”

The previously announced candidate, Maulana Abu Yusuf, expressed his support for Nandi, saying, “According to Jamaat-e-Islami’s decision, Krishna Nandi is the candidate for Khulna-1 in the upcoming national parliamentary election. I have already started campaigning in his favor. As I am appointed as director of the election management committee, I will perform my duties as required, Insha Allah.”

Jamaat-e-Islami had formally announced candidates for six constituencies in Khulna on February 9. While the candidates for the other five seats remained unchanged, only Khulna-1 witnessed a change, with a Hindu community member being nominated for the first time, nearly ten months after the initial announcement.
