Pabna, Dec 10 (V7N) – Sheikh Moinuddin, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Road, Bridge, and Rail Communications, has announced that direct train service from Pabna to Dhaka is expected to begin in March 2026, subject to the resolution of the current shortage of railway coaches.

He shared the update on Tuesday morning while speaking to journalists at the Pakshi West Zone Railway Office in Pabna.

Moinuddin said the railway authority is working to address the shortage of passenger coaches, and preparations are underway to start direct operations on the Pabna–Dhaka route by March. He also mentioned that the underutilized railway station originally built for transporting materials for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be reviewed to determine its future use.

Highlighting the government’s aim to develop an integrated and modern communication network across waterways, railways, and highways, he noted that major district-level connecting highways are already being upgraded to four lanes, and several key roads are being widened. As an old district, Pabna’s Abdul Hamid Road has been prioritized for expansion.

He added that the Aricha Khaschar ferry-link project, the Pakshi–Badherhat road widening project, and the Kashinathpur–Ullapara road expansion proposal are under active government consideration. He further assured that an overpass will be constructed at the Ishwardi railway crossing to ease chronic traffic congestion.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson’s Special Assistant and BNP candidate for Pabna Sadar Constituency, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, along with District BNP Convener and Pabna-4 candidate Habibur Rahman Habib, presented long-standing demands of Pabna residents regarding communication improvements to Moinuddin.

Sheikh Moinuddin arrived in Ishwardi on Monday and on Tuesday visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project area as well as the North Bengal Paper Mill School, which carries memories from the Chief Adviser’s student life.

Pabna Press Club General Secretary Jahurul Islam, District BNP Senior Joint Convener Alhaj Abdus Samad Khan Montu, Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association Secretary General Abu Ahsan Khan Reyon, and senior officials of the West Zone Railway were present during the visit.
