Panaji, Oct 08 (V7N)- Veteran Indian actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.
According to hospital sources cited by NDTV, Patekar was brought to hospital after the cardiac emergency. Doctors attempted to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, but he did not respond to treatment. He was declared dead at 5:20 am on Thursday.
His son, Malhar Patekar, was reportedly in Pune when he received the news and left for Goa. He is expected to issue a detailed statement on behalf of the family.
Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Patekar became one of Indian cinema's most distinctive actors, known for his intense performances, powerful dialogue delivery and portrayal of complex characters.
He made his film debut with the 1978 Hindi film Gaman and went on to build a successful career across Hindi and Marathi cinema. His notable films included Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Natsamrat, Welcome, Rajneeti and Ab Tak Chhappan.
Patekar's performance as gangster Uday Shetty in the 2007 comedy Welcome brought him particularly widespread popularity. He reprised the role in Welcome Back in 2015.
He was also an accomplished filmmaker and theatre personality. His career earned him three National Film Awards, along with other major honours for his work in Indian cinema.
Patekar remained active in the film industry in his later years and was recently seen in Housefull 5. His death marks the loss of one of India's most recognizable and influential performers.
Beyond cinema, Patekar was also associated with social initiatives, particularly efforts supporting farmers and families affected by hardship.
His death has prompted widespread grief among colleagues, fans and admirers across India's film industry.
