Noakhali, June 17 (V7N)- The District Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested Tipu Sultan (35), the prime accused in the piracy of Shakib Khan’s blockbuster film ‘Tandav’, from Noakhali. He was detained in a special operation conducted near Mohammadia Hotel in the district town on Monday afternoon.
Tipu Sultan, son of Khalilur Rahman from Kalikapur village in Ward No. 4 of Jirtali Union, Begumganj Upazila, was wanted in a copyright infringement case filed at Banani Police Station in Dhaka. Authorities confirmed he is the No. 1 accused in the case filed by the movie's producer, Shahriar Karim Bhuiyan (Shahriar Shakil).
Pirated ‘Tandav’ in HD and Distributed Online
According to investigators, Tipu Sultan is part of an organized piracy ring. He allegedly obtained and distributed a full HD pirated version of Tandav through several online platforms, causing significant losses to the film industry.
Speaking on the matter, Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Ibrahim stated, “Tipu Sultan has confessed to his involvement in the piracy. This is not an isolated incident — it's part of a wider network.”
The DB officials reiterated their commitment to protecting the local film industry, warning that any attempt to destroy it through copyright violations will be met with strict legal action.
Next Steps and Legal Action
Authorities are currently processing Tipu Sultan’s transfer to Dhaka, where further legal proceedings will take place under the jurisdiction of Banani Police Station.
