Pabna, Oct 02 (V7N) – Police detained a schoolboy from his school in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna on allegations that he celebrated the birthday of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and posted about it on Facebook.

The student, Robin Biswas, is a Class 10 student and an SSC examinee at Bilgajna School and College in Raninagar Union. He is the son of Gazi Biswas of Badai village in the union.

Police detained Robin at around 4:15pm on Wednesday, Sept 30, from the school premises under Aminpur Police Station, according to police and local sources.

According to teachers, local residents and police, Robin had recently allegedly celebrated Hasina’s birthday and shared posts about the event on Facebook.

The incident reportedly drew the attention of local BNP activists, who went to the school and attempted to take Robin away. Teachers intervened and asked them to leave the school premises. Police later arrived and detained the student after classes ended, according to the sources.

Aminpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir confirmed the detention. He said Robin himself had posted about the birthday celebration on Facebook and that police acted after obtaining what they considered sufficient evidence.

Multiple reports said Robin was subsequently sent to jail through court proceedings on Thursday. One report said he was shown arrested in an earlier case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, although details of that case were not provided in the original account.

The detention of a student from the school premises has drawn attention locally, particularly after the reported attempt by BNP activists to take him away before police intervened.
