Pabna, Oct 02 (V7N) – Students and parents held a peaceful protest rally in Pabna on Thursday, demanding that the lottery system for admission to government secondary schools be scrapped and replaced with admission tests.

The rally was organised by a group calling itself Concerned Parents in front of the Pabna Press Club around noon. Students seeking admission to government schools and their parents took part in the programme.

During the rally, the participants submitted an open letter to the prime minister titled “An Appeal by a Mother for Admission Tests,” calling for the introduction of test-based admission.

Several students, including Nishi Khatun, Sadia Sultana and Rakib Hasan, said the lottery system does not properly assess students’ merit, ability or academic preparation. As a result, they said, many qualified students are unable to secure admission to their preferred government schools.

Parents Monirul Islam and Robiul Islam said admission tests should be introduced to assess students’ academic ability and preparation.

They said a test-based system could create a more competitive and transparent admission process by selecting students according to merit and ability.

The speakers also called for the authorities to replace the lottery system with admission tests at government schools as soon as possible, saying this would provide students with a fair opportunity to compete for admission.
